School History

Our School opened in February 1991 with 175 students and in 2011 has 1357 students from Kindergarten to Year 12.

The School Name

FrederickIrwin Anglican School was named after Captain Frederick Chidley Irwin in recognition of his contribution to the development of Western Australia at the time of its foundation. Captain Irwin was a practising

Anglican and also played a significant role in the establishment of the General Board of Education during his second term as Relieving Governor of the Colony.

The Irwin River which rises in the Lower Murchison Region and flows into the Indian Ocean at Dongara was named after him in recognition of his contributions to the development of the Swan River Colony, as was Chidley Point.

Primary

Frederick Irwin Primary provides a comprehensive programme for children from K to Year 7 catering for the intellectual, social, physical, emotional and spiritual needs of each child.

In recognizing each child’s individuality, we aim to provide learning opportunities which are designed to take account of the student’s interests, ability and potential.

We believe this can only be achieved in a happy and stimulating environment where a feeling of mutual respect exists between teachers, children and parents.

Secondary

Year 7 Transition

The Year 7 Centre at Frederick Irwin Anglican School provides a gradual and guided transition from the Primary environment to the greater independence of Secondary School. Enjoying purpose built learning areas and access to all a Secondary School has to offer, our Year 7 students can acclimatise at their own pace. Staffed by specialist Year 7 Teachers, our transition programme develops an awareness of Secondary School expectations, whilst at the same time providing students

the support and security to establish close bonds within their social groups and a larger year level. The Year 7 curriculum is wide and varied, providing students with knowledge and understanding as well as developing skills and capabilities. In Year 7, students actively participate in activities that will motivate, stimulate and challenge them. ICT is embedded across the curriculum and students. Frederick Irwin Anglican School Year 7 follow the Australian Curriculum.
