Dr. Ian Martin is a consultant Hepatobiliary and Upper Gastro-Intestinal Surgeon at The Wesley and Princess Alexandra Hospitals in Brisbane.

He has widely published articles in his area of interest and is actively involved in ongoing research and publications. He performs regular live surgical tuition to surgeons from within Australia and internationally on the techniques of advanced laparoscopic procedures at The Wesley Hospital. For the past 15 years he has trained many surgical registrars and fellows dedicated in Upper Gastro-intestinal tract specialties who are now working throughout Australia, and the United Kingdom in world class tertiary referral units.

What We Do

His areas of sub-specialty expertise include:

  • Laparoscopic surgery of the gallbladder and biliary tree.
  • Malignancy surgery – (laparoscopic and radical open procedures) for cancers of the oesophagus, stomach, pancreas and liver.
  • Laparoscopic obesity surgery.
  • Laparoscopic hernia repairs.

Dr. Martin regularly presents at national and international meetings and is on several advisory boards with respect to his areas of expertise and is a regular reviewer of international medical journals.
