The Crewel Gobelin - History
When three friends (Marjory Patterson, Evelyn Turner and Judy Jessop) started a home-based needlework shop in Sydney in October 1976 they would never have expected that the business would be going from strength to strength forty years later, yet that’s The Crewel Gobelin's story. Today, The Crewel Gobelin is one of Australia’s leading Needlework shops with an extensive product range available both in-store and on-line to customers around the world.
From their small beginning, the business moved from a house into a shop at 680 Pacific Highway Killara in 1979. First Marjory, then Evelyn, left to pursue other interests, leaving Judy Jessop at the helm until August 1986. Robyn Vincent took over for the following three years, before selling to Robin Holden in August 1989.
The business continued to grow for six and a half years under Robin’s direction, including a move to the shop’s current location at 9 Marian Street Killara. Robin sold to Margaret Fisher at the end of February 1996.
