About Us

On 1 July 2019, VicRoads and Public Transport Victoria came together with the Department of Transport to create a properly integrated transport department – in step with other global cities.

We don’t plan or operate our road, tram, or rail systems separately – we run a transport network.

The new Department of Transport gives us a singular, integrated focus on tackling the big issues – from improving buses in growing suburbs to making it easier to walk and cycle places and embrace new technology.

Major works this summer

We’re working to build better and safer roads across our state. As part of Victoria’s Big Build, works continue to build an alternative to the West Gate Bridge and remove 75 dangerous and congested level crossings. Critical maintenance on roads and public transport will also take place over summer.

These works will cause delays to key roads and surrounding areas. Be sure to plan ahead, allow extra time or take an alternative route if possible, especially if you’re travelling over the holiday period.

Check the list of major works below to see which roads will be impacted and when, or subscribe to daily alerts(Externallink).
